Long Term Objectives

  • Continual monitoring by evolving the strategy over a period of time
  • Long term pro-active health surveillance and health promotion initiatives
  • Constant re-evaluation of the effectiveness of risk assessments and safe systems of work
  • Evaluating the effectiveness of staff appraisals which may identify underlying issues e.g. stress, harassment, bullying, racism etc.
  • Review recruitment procedures to evaluate potential serial claimants
  • Implement policies relating to disciplinary action towards employees for misconduct
  • Implement policies and procedures for drugs and alcohol testing
  • Development of specific registers e.g. risk, PPE, substances etc.
  • Continual development towards a strong safety culture amongst employees by getting them actively involved in health and safety issues

To meet the objectives of the long term strategy can be more difficult due to the overwhelming need for commitment by all the management team. All managers need to sign up to this otherwise it may fall apart even after initial successes through the short term strategy.
However, once everyone in the company starts to pull in the same direction then things will run much smoother after the transitional period.

Additional to the implementation of the claims defensibility strategy the company will have the added support of the safety@work team working invisibly alongside the management team ensuring issues are being dealt with rather than being placed on the backburner - teamwork
